i held the postcard
with the picture
of the tidy kitchen
in my hand
and refused
to face
the reality
of the message
on the reverse
instead i wallowed
in memories
which jangled nerves
long frayed
by solitude
of separation
haunted
by displacement
by a replacement
of inferior
intellect
beauty
sexuality
and knew
i had erred
when i thought
my glorious love
could never
be destroyed
in that instant
when a man
sees a girl
his world
turns upside down
shakes loose
his wife
and children
condemns them
to lives
of bitter insecurity
and self doubt
brought
to a boil
in tidy kitchens
like the one
on the postcard
from hell

Per your usual fantastic Mr. Holmes! I am just about finished with your novel as well…superb!
What welcome words–Many, many thanks! Enjoyed your “Double Wedding Ring”–very nice.
Hi V.B.,
Great writing and I like your premise that a photo can stir strong memories and emotion. Ron
Many thanks–got a good laugh from yours.
Sounds like a man who has much to atone for. Well written verse. Thanks for commenting on mine.
Nice. A lot of action in that verse. Made my head spin.
Grrrrreat piece Tony. I mean vb. Strong emotions, well said, spot on. Love how he refused to face reality.

Sometimes changing to a new reality takes a while to settle, protecting us from meltdown. Whether or not that was the message, that’s what came through for me. Powerful piece, VB!
Strong, visual and sensual, VB. Photos are emotional triggers…you captured that.
Enjoyed it. You took us on quite an emotional roller coaster ride based on photo of a kitchen. Well done.
Dear VB,
Thak you for you patience. I enjoyed your poem’s structure and message. We live in peril all the time and change waits round every corner.
Aloha,
Doug
Yours is one of my favorites this week, VB. I loved the rhythm of your poem, and especially liked:
haunted
by displacement
by a replacement
of inferior
intellect
beauty
sexuality
Beautiful. Powerful. Poignant.
Very powerful imagery of regret. Thanks for visiting mine (I am well behind this week, sorry).
