The People Ask

Discontent bubbles up
from country clubs
community centers
corner bars.

The people are rebelling.

What happened to character?
They ask.
Honesty?
Straight talk?
Common decency?

They’re tired of trash-talking
slander
false accusations.

They seek a sincere
dedicated
wise
experienced leader.

Does one exist?
They ask.

Raises a lot of questions such as, ‘Why do the wrong people always get the power?’

  2. Bodhirose says:

I’m beginning to wonder if any exist…actually I’ve been wondering it for quite some years now…

    • vbholmes says:

Principled men and women seem to be grist for the mill for the media, to say nothing of competing canididates. Compare the fatal “Dean Scream” and Edward Muskie’s tears to the casually brushed-off behavior of some of today’s candidates.

      • Bodhirose says:

How right you are. We’ve come so far (down) from those days…I’d forgotten about the “Dean Scream”…what was all the hoopla about anyway? And where have all our sensibilities gone when we really need them?

  3. whimsygizmo says:

Oh, yes. Amen. Discontent does indeed have a way of bubbling. Great piece.

  4. Grace says:

Don’t we all want and hope for that kind of leader? Unfortunately we get disappointed when a leader doesn’t measure up to their promises ~

  5. Waltermarks says:

haven’t seen one here in a while, good point.

  6. C.C. says:

I hope the people keep asking until they actually start getting some good answers!!

    • vbholmes says:

Do we need answers from the current candidates or brokered conventions in which both parties endorse nominations from the floor this summer? A pipe dream, certainly, but stranger things have happened.

  7. I wonder if it’s all about getting attention and not about listen and reasoning.. Love how you manage to be serious among all the bubblyness I’ve read.

    • vbholmes says:

It’s definitely a “ME” time in politics. With Obama’s abuse of executive privilege setting the example for the next leadership, who knows how close to a dictatorship we’ll come.

  8. Some bubbles are not meant to burst! They become floating annoyances provoking thought. This is such an airy orb!

  9. Yes is there such a leader?

  10. Sumana Roy says:

    they ask rightly…sigh…

  11. Em says:

    And there is no answer.

  12. Snakypoet (Rosemary Nissen-Wade) says:

They may well ask! I like your take on the prompt.

  13. By the time a candidate reaches the point of being a hopeful, it seems they have lost touch with their own morals and what really matters. Just a bunch of oversize bubbles rising and popping.

  14. Honesty and Politics..
    bedfellows
    from
    different
    Mothers..
    Power.. Status
    never ever
    free
    iN essence..
    pain expresses
    pain.. always in other
    ways.. without heARt..:)

    • vbholmes says:

In this day and age, it’s hard to picture honesty and politics as any kind of bedfellows, even “strange” ones. I like your yellow cat photos–we had a barn cat who, an hour after being adopted by us, took up residence on the velvet-covered diningroom chairs and showed her gratitude by being the best behaved cat we ever had (never got up on a table, counter, or anything that was not seating furniture). We miss her.

  15. This is so relative right now. Every day makes me more and more cynical, and tired of the whole political stage.

  16. Calling for Teddy Roosevelt…
